  Job Summary:

Develop, implement, and manage public programs, conferences, and events for the Bliss Institute of Applied Politics while directing marketing, communications, and public relations initiatives. Serve as the sole staff member for the Institute, overseeing daily operations, financial administration, student employees, and event execution to ensure the office functions efficiently and effectively in support of the Institute’s mission.

  Essential Functions:

25% Manage daily operations of the Bliss Institute, including office appearance, supplies, equipment, and general maintenance. Serve as the primary point of contact of the Institute for students, guests, alumni, and University employees. Answer phone, email, and in-person inquiries and schedule meetings for Institute leadership.

25% Develop and administer conferences, events, and public programs (in person and/or virtual). Coordinate and schedule public speakers and conferences. Collaborate with University departments and community groups on co-sponsored events. Maintain a comprehensive calendar of past, current, and future events. Assist with planning and implementation of University events involving outside guests as speakers and/or participants.      

20% Manage Institute budgets, including gift and grant accounts. Pay invoices and expenses; submit PCard/THE Card transactions; prepare Professional Services Agreements; process stipends for student internships; submit travel authorizations and expense reports; and administer scholarship processes and awards.

15% Coordinate marketing and promotional materials for conferences, events, and Applied Politics programs. Manage mailing list databases. Create and disseminate marketing materials. Manage website and social media platforms. Cultivate interest in departmental functions through media outreach, press releases, and media availability sessions.  

10% Hire, train, and supervise student assistants. Create project instructions, assign tasks, and track progress.

5% Collaborate with external entities on events, which may include public officials, campaign operatives, alumni, and community leaders. Assist with internship-related activities and other initiatives central to the Institute’s mission.

Additional Position Information:

Required Qualifications:

Requires a relevant bachelor's degree and two years of relevant experience.

Requires a minimum of 2 years experience in event planning, marketing, and public relations. Incumbent should possess knowledge of university practices and procedures as well as the higher education environment.  Effective communication skills, logistical skills, and crisis management capabilities required.
