The Head of Ecommerce is a key member of MoMA Design Store’s omnichannel efforts and leads all aspects of the ecommerce business including the sales, profitability, and user experience. This includes managing and coaching a staff on ecommerce best practices, setting goals from marketing to operations, KPI’s and standards across the customer lifecycle and experience. This role co-owns with Director of Stores omnichannel efforts to drive customer satisfaction and improved CLTV.
Reporting into the General Manager of Retail and with full P&L responsibility for ecommerce and all performance marketing, this individual will leverage the existing business assets of the Museum and retail stores to drive significant growth of the business over the next few years, increase adoption of omni-channel thinking and execution across our channels, as well as educate and infuse digital thinking across all areas of the organization.
We are looking for a hands-on, entrepreneurial, pragmatic leader, capable of delivering results in a traditional corporate environment and who understands the basic principles of content, site merchandising, site optimization, catalog creation & production, direct and digital acquisition and retention marketing.
Responsibilities
- P&L responsibility for a $35M+ ecommerce business
- Develops ecommerce and digital marketing strategies, plans and programs to drive business growth objectives, help develop merchandising, marketing & creative strategies to grow revenue & profitability.
- Owns the overall customer experience for web including web site optimization, site merchandising, promotions and 3rd party marketing.
- Oversees day-to-day execution of the ecommerce performance marketing activities, including identifying and overseeing the launch of new sales channels, as well as growing and optimizing SEM, display advertising, SEO, paid social and email.
- Manages a team and site experience and owns relationships with third party partners and agencies.
- Drives financial analysis and strategy for ecommerce efforts.
- Collaborates cross functionally with planning, merchandising, finance and marketing/creative to help achieve the Museum's financial objectives and to work on cross-department committees within Retail and across the Museum as appropriate.
Requirements
The ideal candidate for this position has strong experience in ecommerce, customer acquisition, revenue generation, growing online/digital businesses and catalog.
- Minimum of 7 years ecommerce experience including managing a budget and P&L performance.
- Demonstrated leadership of a staff, across diverse functions and tasks. Seasoned managerial skills; ability to develop and grow staff and drive excellence in team dynamics.
- Experience in working collaboratively within the ecommerce business as well as cross department, cross channel, cross company and externally to educate, influence and successfully launch digital and omni-channel programs.
- Track record of developing digital products and improving site experiences that delight consumers and drive sales success.
- Experience leveraging customer segmentation to drive differentiated on-site experience and marketing outreach.
- Demonstrated ability for developing strategic plans that include assumptions and forecasts.
- Strong online merchandising experience: ability to best present and continually optimize a product assortment online to generate desire and foster sales.
- Demonstrated critical thinking and analytical skills at the strategic and tactical levels. Utilizes data to make decisions. Strong data acumen. Hands on experience gathering data and insights through various analytics tools including Google Analytics. Strength using Microsoft Excel or similar.
- Industry involvement and knowledge of vendors, associations, analysts and other third party resources in the digital and direct to consumer landscape.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- 5 years of managerial, data/strategic analysis & planning experience.
- Home or design category experience and interest preferred.
Reports to: General Manager of Retail
Salary Range: Minimum of $175,000 to a maximum of $260,000 per annum
