The Vice President for Marketing and Communications is a member of senior leadership with oversight of the marketing and communications team and marketing programs for Berkeley Medical Center (BMC), Jefferson Medical Center (JMC), and their affiliated clinics and medical practices. Key areas of oversight include: local brand leadership and stewardship; the development of strategic marketing campaigns in support of service line growth; strategic sponsorships; external relations with both the local news media and the general public; market analyses; and all internal and external communications in support of routine operations as well as emergency or crisis events. In addition to providing executive leadership for marketing and communication initiatives, this position will lead the WVU Hospitals-East Foundation. The responsibilities of that role include overseeing and developing the Foundation’s staff and planning, designing and implementing programs to meet capital expenditures and ongoing non reimbursed hospital expenditures.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Business or related field.
EXPERIENCE:
- Eight (8) years of progressive experience in marketing, public relations, communications, external affairs, philanthropy.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

- Master’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Business or related field.
EXPERIENCE:
- Five (5) years of marketing, communications, and/or development leadership experience.

- Develops and oversees operational budget for marketing and development programs and staff. Ensures that department operates within budget.
- Develops and implements marketing, communication and development strategies for the region including appropriate media distribution and techniques for all advertising, public, and news media.
- Develops and coordinates market research and ensures effective brand management in collaboration with the Health System marketing function and Chief Marketing & Communications Officer.
- Interfaces with Board members and community and business leadership regarding community relations and development of the hospitals in support of the mission and strategic plan.
- Develops and implements fund-raising initiatives, events, and campaigns, in coordination with the Board of Directors of the Foundation.
- Conducts ongoing analysis and evaluation of all marketing and development programs designed to support the region’s mission, strategic plan, and growth priorities.
- Leads all marketing and development projects.
- Collaborates with regional and enterprise leadership to identify and implement programs/projects for the advancement of the region’s mission.
- Manages and supervises the Marketing, Communications, and Development team members and consultant relationships for the region.
- Serves on and supports various internal and external committees and boards.
- Monitors, evaluates, and communicates trends in health care marketing and development to support responsive actions on behalf of the hospitals and Foundation, particularly with regard to legislative issues and involvement in grassroots political action activities.
- Represent the hospitals, and be prepared to function as spokesperson, for all marketing and fundraising functions, press conferences, and civic organizational presentations.
