We operate the largest residential program for formerly homeless women and children in the Sacramento region providing services 24 hours/day, 365 days/year, offering shelter, meals, childcare, and comprehensive support services, including Behavioral Health Services, Hands-on Employment Training, Career Education, and Family Services.

About The Position…
The Chief Development and Marketing Officer (CDMO) is a key member of the Leadership team, responsible for driving the organization’s private fundraising, marketing, and event strategies. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the CDMO oversees all aspects of private fundraising (individuals, corporate, foundation), donor engagement, major events, and marketing efforts to advance Saint John’s mission and visibility. Leading a talented and experienced team, the CDMO ensures alignment across development and marketing initiatives to achieve ambitious revenue and engagement goals.
You’ll be responsible for…
Development Strategy and Leadership
- Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy to achieve and exceed $2M annual private fundraising goal through major gifts, corporate partnerships, foundation grants, planned giving and special events
- Build and maintain relationships with major donors, cultivating and stewarding new and existing partnerships
- Partner with the CEO and Board of Directors to engage in high-level donor cultivation and solicitation
- Oversee the identification, research, and development of grant opportunities to secure funding from foundations and other institutional donors
- Ensure the effective use of donor management systems (e.g., CRM) to track fundraising metrics, donor engagement, and reporting
Major Fundraising Events
- Plan, manage, and execute the organization’s major fundraising events, ensuring they meet revenue, attendance and engagement goals
- Oversee all aspects of event logistics, including budgeting, sponsorship acquisition, vendor management, and program development
- Collaborate with internal teams and departments to promote events and maximize participation and visibility
- Evaluate event success and identify opportunities for growth and improvement in future events
Marketing and Communications
- Develop and execute a marketing and communications strategy to increase brand awareness, donor engagement, and community impact
- Oversee the creation of compelling content, including newsletters, social media campaigns, press releases, and annual reports, ensuring consistent messaging and alignment with organizational goals
- Monitor and analyze the effectiveness of marketing initiatives, leveraging data to refine strategies
- Serve as a spokesperson and public representative for the organization, enhancing visibility and reputation in the community and among stakeholders
Team Leadership and Collaboration
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of staff members, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and accountability
- Collaborate with program and finance teams to align fundraising goals with programmatic priorities and budget needs
- Work closely with the Boad of Directors and Development committee(s) to engage them in the fundraising and advocacy efforts
- Serve on the Leadership team comprised of the Chief Executive Officer, Chief Operating Officer, Chief Program Officer, Chief Philanthropy and Marketing Officer, and Chief Human Resource Officer, and the Management team, inclusive of the leadership team and departmental directors
Community Engagement and Volunteer Management
- Oversee staff and partners for continued development of a high-level volunteer program, which supports operations, creating ongoing sources of volunteer leadership and community involvement.
- Ensure volunteer program growth and Saint John’s Circle in coordination with programs and services to fulfill organizational need and achieve strategic goals.
- Oversee a robust volunteer stewardship program that improves retention and encourages progressively deeper involvement with the organization.
You must have...
- Bachelor's Degree in nonprofit management, marketing, communications, business, or a related field; advance degree strongly preferred.
- Fluent in English language (spoken and written)
- Proficient knowledge of email, copiers, fax, and internet
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite

- Experience: Minimum of 8+ years of leadership in fundraising and marketing experience; proven track record of successfully managing a $2M+ annual fundraising portfolio and producing high-impact events; Proficiency in donor management software (e.g., Salesforce, Raisers Edge, etc.) and digital marketing tools
- Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills
- Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to inspire and engage diverse audiences
- Data-driven approach to fundraising and marketing, with the ability to leverage analytics to inform decision-making
- Creative and innovative mindset with a passion for advancing the organization’s mission
