The P&T Knitwear Marketing & Outreach Coordinator works to build P&T Knitwear’s audience in store and online, strengthening the bookstore’s brand and overall revenue; and works in tandem with the Events & Outreach Coordinator to develop partnerships with external organizations and facilitate relationships within the NYC community at large. This role also assists with hosting evening and occasionally weekend events. The Marketing Coordinator is responsible for creating, collaborating on, and coordinating engaging campaigns; supporting event publicity; and for staying on top of the latest trends and releases in the industry to position the bookstore and its inventory for optimal sales and growth.
DUTIES
STORE MARKETING: In cooperation with the General Manager, Buyer, and Inventory Specialist, maintain and refine P&T Knitwear’s brand identity and marketing campaign strategies, both in store and online, designing the bookstore and its marketing systems for growth, while identifying short and long-term goals and developing the strategies and work flow necessary to reach those goals.
- Create and execute strategies to communicate the store’s messages, drive sales, and build the bookstore’s audience in-store and across digital platforms, ensuring the bookstore’s identity is seamlessly reflected across all campaigns.
- Manage the store’s marketing calendar and coordinate with all necessary stakeholders to ensure campaigns are executed on time and to expectations.
- Manage P&T Knitwear’s Twitter, Instagram, Tik Tok, and Facebook accounts.
- Generate and execute ideas for digital and in-store marketing, including writing copy, taking photos or video, creating graphics, creating in-store signage, and posting content. Identify and manage support staff to complete these tasks as needed.
- Work with our Buyer and Inventory Specialist to develop plans for supporting specific titles, including (but not limited to) pre-order campaigns, signed stock, and staff picks.
- Oversee regular updates of the store’s specialized commerce pages, including (but not limited to) new releases, preorders, signed stock, and staff picks.
- Create and send regularly scheduled general newsletters, as well as specialized promotional newsletters including (but not limited to) specific events, preorder campaigns, seasonal interests, and seasonal sales.
- In collaboration with the Events & Outreach Manager, create and execute a clear marketing plan for each author event, program, and community partnership
- Track analytics and deliver reports as needed.
EVENT PUBLICITY: Support the Events & Outreach Manager with promotional advertisement for all of P&T Knitwear’s events (both in store and online), as well as day-of coverage of events.
- Using existing templates, create graphics for all online and in-store event marketing, with updates to physical displays and high-traffic areas of the store on a regular basis.
- Schedule and coordinate online marketing of events with all necessary stakeholders, ensuring that consistent promotion from author, publisher, and P&T Knitwear generates sufficient interest to meet and improve upon performance metrics (attendance, sales, returns, etc.)
- In coordination with Events & Outreach Manager, identify and submit select events to local listing platforms — both new and those with preexisting relationships to P&T Knitwear — and evaluate metrics to determine successful partnerships
- Provide day-of support for events, including capturing photo and/or video content for subsequent promotion, hosting (schedule to be determined in coordination with Events & Outreach Manager), and assisting staff members when necessary.
OUTREACH: Act as a first point of contact between the bookstore and community organizations, businesses and groups on the Lower East Side, as well as within New York City’s larger literary community.
- Work in tandem with the Events & Outreach Manager to establish mutually beneficial partnerships, programming, and events with those partners.
- Work with our Buyer and Inventory Specialist to identify B2B and high-volume B2C revenue streams (eg. schools), as well as facilitating partnerships and programs with said businesses and clients in conjunction with the Events & Outreach Manager.
- Maintain ongoing outreach efforts with universities and relevant departments (eg. MFA programs), specialized/affinity groups, neighborhood organizations, educational programming, nonprofits, book clubs, etc.
- Research organizations for donation benefit partnerships, both monthly and seasonally (esp. holiday shopping), coordinate donation campaigns, maintain communication with partner organizations once campaign ends
QUALIFICATIONS
- Love of books and talking about books.
- An understanding of the value of independent bookstores and their role within a community.
- An active knowledge of the book and publishing landscape.
- 2+ years experience in bookselling or publishing.
- Experience with community organizing and event planning a plus.
- An eye for graphic design, with experience using Canva preferred.
- Familiarity with Google Workspace.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to simultaneously think creatively and strategically.
- Self-driven, with the ability to work independently as well as collaborate.
- Availability to work nights and weekends as required by our events schedule.
- An outgoing, people-first approach to engaging the community and the tenacity for cold outreach and friendly follow-up.
This position pays between $24-$26/hour with benefits. This role is also eligible for overtime.
