Position: Sr. Design Manager
Reports to: Creative Director
This role is onsite in Syracuse, NY
Raymour & Flanigan is the Northeast’s largest and most trusted furniture and mattress retailer with 140+ locations and an evolving e-commerce platform. The privately-held company has grown by over 30% in the past five years and is committed to continued growth. The company is currently investing heavily in its existing footprint of stores, recently created Outlet channel and rapidly growing digital presence.
The Design Manger is responsible for driving the development and implementation of creative for Raymour & Flanigan, with a focus on designing assets across all marketing and brand channels. The ideal candidate is passionate about retail marketing and results-oriented with a strong attention to detail and follow-through. This role manages a group of designers, providing oversight, development and training. They are also passionate about the home space including interior design, competitive research, and trends.
In collaboration with the Marketing team and key company stakeholders, the Design Manager will:
Responsibilities
- Lead and inspire a team of designers, partners, and other marketing professionals to conceptualize and execute engaging marketing campaigns.
- Operationalize and implement a standard system for design delivery and consistency, including design system creation across the customer journey (including digital experience, store messaging, consumer advertising, etc..)
- Support the ongoing development of our brand identity and the maintenance of a cohesive and recognizable brand identity. Ensure consistent application of brand guidelines across all creative assets and across the full customer journey.
- Collaborate and align with cross-functional teams on promotional and brand storytelling. Create design strategies which bring these to life across the marketing channels.
- Maintain strong ongoing connection with stores and field team to ensure all marketing and promotional planning is designed with an understanding of impact on internal and external customers.
- In partnership with the Project Management and Copy Team, work to interpret needs, objectives, and direction from multiple sources to ensure design concepts meet business goals. Work to ensure strong communication and collaboration with key stakeholders.
- Leads cross-functional creative presentations and workshops. Supports junior staff in project reviews.
- Become a trusted advisor to cross-functional partners and Creative Director; continually educate on creative process and best practices. Identify potential roadblocks on behalf of the team and intervene as needed.
- In partnership with the Art Director, ensure visual imagery supports messaging, design requirements and business objectives.
- Partner with vendors to ensure consistency and usability standards.
- Contribute to reporting/measurement/analysis of events, programs, and initiatives to develop facts and tools that assist with future design, planning and decision-making.
- Identify and initiate methods to improve the design process and ideas to champion change.
- Be a driver of innovation and experimentation around new technologies (including AI), channels, messaging, and tactics that can be applied to meet marketing objectives. Support the development of a test and learn agenda to drive ongoing learning and optimization.
Requirements/Background
- Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Design, Advertising, Marketing, or related field.
- 5+ years of relevant job experience in a design management role, with a strong portfolio of successful campaigns, projects and strategies
- For consideration, an online portfolio is required
- Expertise in full adobe suite, Sketch and/or Figma
- Extreme attention to detail and outstanding organization skills
- Curious about the customer and how we can improve their home buying experience
- Demonstrated ability to build strong partnerships with internal/external partners and key stakeholders
- Solid verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to influence and persuade others with diplomacy and tact; work with numerous partners of differing levels, flexing interaction style as required
- Strong project management skills; ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines, in a busy, fast-paced environment
- Resourceful, proactive, and highly motivated
- Excellent judgment and decision-making skills; ability to work independently
