Tysons Community Alliance (TCA) is an independent, non-profit (501(c) 6) community improvement organization, committed to the transformation of Tysons, VA into a vibrant, inclusive, globally attractive urban center where all thrive. By facilitating collaboration, activating places, promoting Tysons and place management, the TCA coordinates, plans, and leverages resources to make Tysons a thriving, diverse and competitive urban community.
The TCA was incorporated in late 2022. The organization has a work program and budget of $4 million, with funding provided by the Fairfax County Government, and plans to hire a staff of 15.
Position Summary
The Communications Manager advances the mission of the Tysons Community Alliance by managing the TCA’s overall marketing and communications initiatives including the development, creation, and implementation of marketing, communications, public relations, and sponsorship planning. The Manager collaborates closely with members, partners, media, and all aspects of the public.
Primary Responsibilities
- Develop, coordinate, and execute annual marketing, communications plans and work within brand design guidelines to promote and elevate Tysons, VA.
- Manage the organization’s digital presence, including the tysonsva.org website and TCA’s social media accounts.
- Coordinate across departments to achieve effective workflow and a coherent, singular voice in TCA’s online presence, including website and social media.
- Work with the Communications Director and directly with the organization’s web developer in the redesign and ongoing maintenance of the website to align with new campaigns and organization mission/values. Develop and create engaging website content, image selection, and editing. Make recommendations to develop the website further to promote and advance economic development, special events, marketing, and promotional opportunities. Manage all forms of social media, keeping with the same voice and brand as set for the organization as a whole.
- Support the Communications Director and Events Manager in developing and implementing a comprehensive sponsorship strategy to support the implementation of the organization’s work plans. Build relationships and generate new corporate supporters for TCA-related functions, special events, and initiatives.
- Develop, oversee and manage content for marketing materials, including but not limited to the website, brochures, annual report, and e-newsletters.
- Manage media relations, develop press releases, assist in pitching TCA initiatives.
- Support and coordinate with community engagement efforts, experiences and initiatives.
- Employ customer relationship management (CRM) to maintain community databases and to document data informing development of engagement strategies.
- Provide onsite support of events, including some nighttime or weekend occasions, as needed.
Scope
This position has a well-defined scope, broadly impacts organizational visibility and brand, and supports and reaches across all departments. Reports to the Director of Communications; supervises occasional temporary assistants; interacts closely with the full Communications team. Represents the organization in relevant matters to stakeholders, local and regional government officials, partners, media, and the general public. Expends funds within the parameters of approved project budgets.
Qualifications, Skills, And Attributes
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, event planning, policy and government relations or related field strongly preferred.
- Minimum three years’ experience in communications management.
- Exceptional communication skills, with demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and articulately both in writing and orally.
- Must enjoy writing in particular and possess strong writing skills. Proven track record in raising visibility and profile of organization(s) and ability to identify and effectively influence target audiences through marketing campaigns.
- Strong project management skills, including ability to multitask, problem-solve, prioritize, delegate, and to create efficient systems and processes.
- Familiarity with the local business, residential and government environment, and/or with economic development, urban planning, or community engagement projects highly desirable.
- Requires meticulous attention to detail and accuracy.
- Must be a team player, able to collaborate effectively; creative, energetic and flexible in keeping with the startup environment
- Strong social media strategy and implementation skills a must.
- Highly organized, self-motivated and able to develop and implement strategic goals.
- Advanced technology skills including expertise with Microsoft Office and database management; willingness to learn new applications and identify innovative ways for technology to support organizational objectives.
- Strong customer focus in all tasks and activities, especially when working under pressure.
Compensation And Benefits
We offer a starting salary range of $75,000-$85,000 for this position, depending on experience, plus a comprehensive benefits package including 401(K), Health, Dental, Vision, Life and Disability coverage, Transit/Parking, and ample paid time off.
Note: The responsibilities of this position call primarily for in-person presence in the office, and at occasional weekend and evening events, while allowing some opportunity for remote work.
