The College of Law is seeking a Director of Marketing and Communication to enhance the achievement of organizational business objectives through design and implementation of effective marketing plans. Conduct marketing research, analyses, and design metrics. Recommend service/operational changes necessary to create and sustain a positive customer experience; implement a media mix, including digital and social, aimed at obtaining responses from target markets; manage the brand; and measure results, including financial return on investment. Coordinate efforts with those in other communications disciplines, including design, multi-media, and communications. May be responsible for one or more marketing functions, service lines, or entities.
Please note: THIS IS A SPECIFIED TERM APPOINTMENT AT 100 % EFFORT FOR 6-9 MONTHS.
Specific Job Duties And Tasks
- Track progress towards goals and evaluate the effectiveness of marketing communications and paid advertising efforts to target audiences.
- Recommend and implement optimizations for improvement.
- Create and oversee implementation of a strategic marketing plan and vision.
- Determine marketing and communications strategy based on student focus groups, external research and ongoing evaluation of digital content performance.
- Assess progress toward marketing and communication goals.
- Oversee, manage, and evaluate the creation and production of marketing materials.
- Develop and implement college-wide positioning and messaging to ensure brand quality and consistency across platforms.
- Keep on top of marketing trends and implement when appropriate.
- Determine content themes, messaging, and responsible for the publication and distribution of all College of Law communications.
- Development and implementation of social media strategy in line with the College of Law's strategic plan.
- Manage project timeline in coordination with external publishing vendor.
- Create processes internally to ensure on-time completion of editorial content developed within the College of Law.
- Work with external vendor to maintain timelines.
- Determine and track budget for all marketing efforts.
- Supervise 1.5 FTE including hiring process, onboarding, conducting regular performance reviews, and ensuring they are up-to- date with UI policies and procedures.
- Supervise student employees including interviewing, hiring, assessment, and time tracking. Compliance with UI policies and procedures.
Hybrid within Iowa: This position is eligible for hybrid work within Iowa and will require a work arrangement form to be completed upon the start of your employment. Per policy, work arrangements will be reviewed annually, and must comply with the remote work program and related policies and employee travel policy when working at a remote location.

Education Required
- A bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Communication, or Computer Science, or an equivalent combination of education and experience proving a comparable level of expertise.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of strategic marketing experience, including leading efforts in web strategy, content, email marketing, process development, and analytics.
- Strong understanding of web and digital marketing strategies including audiences, trends, goals, tools, and techniques.
- In depth knowledge and understanding of social media channels and their audiences to develop targeted messages.
- Experience maintaining Drupal websites.
- Effective oral and written communication with content providers, designer and developers, non-technical stakeholders, and end users.
- Demonstrated ability to interact positively with a population of varying perspectives.
- Ability to work with limited supervision, proven writing and editing experience as well as an understanding of web, digital, and social media metrics to inform editorial and brand development.
- Experience with tracking software such as Google Analytics, SiteImprove, MS Planner.
Desirable Qualifications
- Master’s Degree
- Experience creating responsive and adaptive websites and web experience.
- Experience in marketing and communications at a higher ed institution.
- Experience leading enterprise website redesign projects.
- Experience with various digital marketing technologies and techniques (email, CRM, semantic enrichment, search optimization, voice-enabled experiences, landing page design, etc.)
- Experience with mobile-first, responsible design, and adaptive approaches to website design.
