The Group Vice President of a market/product segment has P&L responsibility for a group of assigned operating companies or brands within a designated market segment or product area reporting to a corporate operating division. To achieve and exceed annual financial targets, the Group VP is responsible for developing segment strategy and managing functional areas, including sales, marketing, engineering, manufacturing/materials, safety, quality assurance, human resources, and accounting/finance. The Group VP develops and implements strategies to increase penetration and market share of the market/product segment while improving top and bottom-line financial performance, optimizing operating company integration, and growing sales and profit through a combination of internal development and strategic acquisitions. The Group VP establishes a high-performing, collaborative, continuous improvement culture and a positive working environment. This position serves as an operating division leadership team member and may be assigned staff tasks with division-wide impacts.
Essential Functions Of The Job
- Drives the execution of the corporate operational strategy.
- Leads several operating companies within a specific market and/or product segment and the related distribution channels, holding P&L responsibility for the assigned set of operating companies.
- Ensures that Alamo Group Inc. business initiatives, operating companies, self and staff actions model and conform to the Alamo Group Code of Business Conduct and Ethics.
- Develop and execute business strategies to improve profitability, increase market share, and improve operating income and return on assets.
- Leads the development and execution of one-to-three-year strategic plans for the product/market segment.
- Provides leadership and vision through the development and implementation of strategic marketing/sales plans to achieve consistent growth and profitability to meet, then exceed, the company's key operational KPIs.
- Effectively develops and manages staff within the area of responsibility. Plans, organizes, integrates, and measures the company's human resources and talent. Develops or replaces people as required to meet increasing standards of growth.
- Develop and maintain succession plans for each assigned operating company.
- Drives improvements in delivery, cost reduction, quality, asset utilization, preventive maintenance, warranty/customer service, and safety.
- Understands company business within the market segment - how products go to market, the competition, and the opportunities and risks. Takes recommendations appropriate actions to impact the company's financial results favorably.
- Oversees the development of new, differentiated products and service offerings. Works closely with the sales and marketing teams and key customers to successfully launch new products and services to grow the business.
- Develop a strategic acquisition strategy within the assigned market space. Identifies, evaluates, and integrates acquisitions.
- May be required to step in and manage an operating company during periods of transition.
- Develops and oversees the annual segment operating budget and participates in Alamo Group Inc. annual budget processes.
- Ensures all expenditures for capital investment and ordinary expenses are properly documented with necessary approvals per corporate guidelines and managed appropriately.
- Responsible for ensuring that all company property, records, and management assets under the control of this position are properly maintained and adequately secured.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of global markets, organizational scale requirements, and the processes needed to lead operations within the context of a rapidly growing company.
- Very strong financial and business acumen, including both profit/loss and the balance sheet. Knowledge and understanding of financial accounting and cost systems, including standard cost, product line profitability analysis, pricing, operational reporting using KPIs, and marketing and sales planning.
- Knowledge of business and management processes involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership techniques, and selection/alignment of people and resources.
- Adept at developing opportunities through close collaboration with peers and colleagues.
- Working knowledge of integrated ERP systems and ERP implementations.
- JDE Enterprise experience preferred.
- Excellent commercial skills and solid general management experience are required, including experience managing collective bargaining groups and proactive employee relations and union-avoidance strategies where the business is not organized under a CBA.
- Adept at leadership and management of change with the ability to diagnose and solve problems, articulate a plan, continuously improve processes, and implement solutions.
- Able to build and foster effective business relationships with other executives, key customers, dealers, suppliers, and other internal and external stakeholders.
- Able to operate at the strategic planning level while effectively managing the tactical aspects of business operations.
- Able to motivate, develop, and direct people to perform at their highest potential with the ability to identify and place the best people in the right jobs.
- Able to work irregular and/or extended hours, including weekends and holidays, as needed.
- Able to travel at least 50% of the time and occasionally on short notice.

Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, or related field required, MBA or other post-graduate degree desired.
- 15+ years of experience in senior operations management roles in manufacturing is required; experience in heavy industrial and/or agricultural equipment industries is strongly preferred.
- Must have demonstrated current experience as president or operating company leader with full P&L responsibility for a growing manufacturing company or division with sales in excess of $150 million; experience managing multiple operating companies and geographically dispersed locations.
- International business experience is preferred
- Proven experience in leading product development, cross-selling opportunities, and managing multiple distribution networks.
Working Conditions
Work performed in an office environment, with occasional walking in and around a manufacturing plant. May be required to travel 50% or more of the time by automobile and/or common air carrier with overnight stays required.
