Job Description

Responsibilities

We are searching for a Chief Communications Officer (CCO) to lead the firm's communications function through a period of significant transformation and growth. With the merger of Baker Tilly and Moss Adams, the firm now operates with greater scale, expanded capabilities, and a broader national footprint. This newly created role will report directly to the CEO and will be responsible for building a best-in-class communications function that supports Baker Tilly's strategy, culture, and client promise.

The CCO will play a critical role in helping both internal and external audiences understand the firm's growth, purpose, and positioning, particularly its ambition to be the number one firm serving the middle market. Communications will be central to setting the tone for the firm's evolving culture, reinforcing its client-centric and talent-centric mindset, and ensuring that Baker Tilly is seen as a go-to partner for its target clients.

The ideal candidate will bring a growth mindset, a passion for building, and the sensitivity to navigate a complex and evolving organization. This is a unique opportunity to shape the voice of a newly scaled firm and to lead a function that will play a central role in its integration, growth, and future potential. The role requires a leader who is equally comfortable setting strategy and rolling up their sleeves to execute, and who can build trust across a diverse and dynamic leadership team.

  • Develop and drive an innovative, integrated communications strategy that elevates Baker Tilly's brand in partnership with Marketing, supports its growth ambitions, and differentiates the firm in the market.
  • Serve as a strategic advisor to the CEO and senior leadership team on all communications matters.
  • Lead, develop, inspire, and strengthen a high-performing communications team, fostering a strategic mindset and collaborative culture.
  • Design and lead a thoughtful external communications strategy, including media relations, thought leadership, executive visibility, and social/digital media, that tells Baker Tilly's story and supports reputation and awareness objectives.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities to elevate the profiles of the new CEO and other senior leaders through media opportunities, social and digital media, speaking engagements, and thought leadership platforms.
  • Upgrade and increase the quality and volume of external announcements, press releases, and visibility opportunities.
  • Ensure consistent, aligned messaging across all internal and external channels.
  • Oversee internal communications to promote clarity, transparency, and engagement across the newly integrated organization.
  • Partner with HR to support change management and employee engagement. Support the rollout of a new operating model and help employees understand its implications across geographies and functions.
  • Develop and maintain effective crisis and issues management protocols, and lead communications during sensitive or high-impact events.
  • Craft communications that support go-to-market efforts and reinforce the firm's value proposition.
  • Establish clear metrics to evaluate communications effectiveness and inform ongoing strategy.

Qualifications

  • 15+ years of communications experience in professional services, financial services, or similarly complex organizations.
  • Demonstrated success positioning a company as an industry leader through earned media, executive visibility, thought leadership, and social and digital communications strategies. Experience leading through transformation or change is preferred.
  • Prior experience with merger integration and optimization of communication channels.
  • Direct media relations experience, including building relationships with key reporters and securing high-impact media coverage.
  • Experience managing crisis communications and handling sensitive matters to mitigate reputational risk.
  • Strong internal communications expertise, with a focus on culture building and employee engagement.
  • Proven ability to advise, counsel, and coach CEOs and other senior leaders.
  • Exceptional leadership and team-building skills, with a track record of developing high-performing teams and fostering collaboration across functions.
  • Ability to build and support the necessary communications platforms to expedite the integration of the two predecessor companies creating the new Baker Tilly
