Family Promise is the nation's leading nonprofit dedicated to preventing and ending family homelessness. Through our national federated network of nearly 180 locations, Family Promise mobilizes community stakeholders to provide prevention and shelter services, housing stabilization services, and affordable permanent housing to families with children in a housing crisis.

As the organization enters its next chapter of growth and national impact, we are seeking a Chief Marketing & Communications Officer who will build and lead the integrated marketing and communications function needed to expand Family Promise's visibility, influence, engagement, and support.

The Opportunity

The Chief Marketing & Communications Officer (CMCO) is a senior executive responsible for shaping how Family Promise is understood, experienced, and engaged by audiences across the country. Reporting directly to the CEO and serving as a member of the senior leadership team, the CMCO leads enterprise brand and narrative strategy, marketing, communications, content, thought leadership, media relations, digital strategy, and audience growth.

This is a builder role. The CMCO will translate Family Promise's mission, national network, data, and expertise into a clear and differentiated national voice while establishing the team, systems, partnerships, resources, and measurement infrastructure required for long-term growth.

Success in this role requires enterprise-level thinking, strong creative and strategic judgment, an audience-centered and data-informed approach, and experience building teams and capabilities in a complex, evolving, mission-driven organization.

What You Will Lead and Own Enterprise Marketing, Brand & Communications Strategy

  • Develop and lead an integrated marketing and communications strategy aligned with Family Promise's mission, enterprise priorities, and growth goals.
  • Steward Family Promise's brand, positioning, narrative, messaging, and reputation, ensuring a clear and consistent national voice across the organization and Affiliate network.
  • Translate organizational priorities into focused annual plans, budgets, baselines, performance measures, and clear sequencing of investments.
  • Serve as a strategic adviser to the CEO, senior leadership team, and Board on brand, reputation, audience engagement, communications, and marketing opportunities and risks.

Thought Leadership, Content & National Visibility

  • Position Family Promise and its leaders as authoritative national voices on family homelessness and proven, community-based solutions.
  • Lead an integrated content, storytelling, media relations, and executive communications strategy informed by research, data, Affiliate expertise, and lived experience.
  • Build a repeatable editorial and storytelling infrastructure that surfaces strong stories and insights from across the network and extends their reach through national channels.
  • Ensure communications are credible, compelling, inclusive, trauma-informed, and grounded in the dignity and agency of families.

Digital Experience, Audience Growth & Performance

  • Lead the marketing strategy for Family Promise's digital ecosystem, including the national website and its evolving relationship to Affiliate digital experiences.
  • Establish priority audiences, channel roles, user journeys, and integrated approaches across web, email, social, search, paid media, and emerging channels.
  • Build the analytics and measurement foundation needed to establish baselines, assess performance, improve conversion, and guide future marketing investment.
  • Partner with Development and other teams to strengthen donor engagement, campaigns, service navigation, Affiliate engagement, and other enterprise priorities.

Team Building, Resourcing & Organizational Leadership

  • Build and manage the marketing and communications function, including its team structure, capabilities, operating model, workflows, and planning rhythms.
  • Recruit, lead, coach, and develop a high-performing team, creating clear roles and the capacity required to meet current priorities and scale over time.
  • Establish the right mix of internal and external capabilities to meet organizational priorities, managing agencies, consultants, and other partners with clear scopes, budgets, and performance expectations.
  • Build strong cross-functional partnerships and practical tools that enable Development, Programs, Advocacy, Affiliate Services, and local Affiliates to advance shared goals and communicate effectively.
