Position Summary

The Director of Marketing leads integrated campaigns that turn interest in the Indianapolis Indians into ticket purchases and repeat visits. This hands-on role plans and delivers audience-focused marketing across email, text, web, paid media, and other channels; manages the campaign calendar and agency relationships; and uses customer and sales data to improve results. Working within the team’s brand strategy, the director connects season-long messaging, game promotions, and individual game needs to clear audience and revenue objectives.

Major Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain an integrated marketing plan and campaign calendar tied to single-game ticket sales, advance purchases, first-time buyers, repeat visits, fan engagement, and brand goals. Prioritize games and audiences based on sales pace and opportunity.
  • Plan, build, launch, test, and improve email and SMS campaigns. Use purchase history, expressed interests, and engagement data to develop relevant audience segments, post-purchase journeys, repeat-visit efforts, and lapsed-buyer campaigns. Manage exclusions and communication preferences.
  • Own campaign briefs, audience strategy, key messages, copy, channel plans, website campaign content, asset requirements, timelines, and launch quality. Coordinate with creative and social teams on execution and brand consistency.
  • Collaborate with sponsorship, ticketing, and community relations teams to develop integrated marketing campaigns that support revenue growth and fan experience
  • Guide paid media and agency work: set objectives and briefs, review targeting and creative, monitor spending and results, and recommend changes in budget or tactics within established approval limits.
  • Analyze ticket sales, customer behavior, campaign response, website activity, and media results. Establish useful baselines; distinguish orders, tickets, buyers, revenue, and attendance; and share timely recommendations with leadership.
  • Develop promotional strategies, theme nights, and fan engagement activations to enhance the game-day experience.
  • Monitor fan insights, market trends, and campaign performance to drive data-informed marketing decisions.
  • Manage the marketing budget and campaign workflow, including internal approvals, external partners, production lead times, and on-time delivery.

Skills And Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, business, or a related field
  • 6+ years of progressively responsible marketing experience, including independent ownership of consumer-facing campaigns, budgets, and measurable outcomes.
  • Hands-on experience with CRM and email marketing, including audience segmentation, campaign production, testing, and reporting. Experience with SMS and customer retention is valuable.
  • Ability to interpret sales and campaign data in spreadsheets, identify meaningful trends, and turn findings into practical decisions. Familiarity with website analytics and paid-media reporting.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience managing teams and collaborating across departments.
  • Strong writing and creative-brief skills, sound brand judgment, and the ability to tailor a message to different audiences without losing a consistent voice.
  • Experience directing agencies or external partners and leading work across teams without relying on direct-report authority. Strong planning and follow-through during a busy season.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for engaging with internal stakeholders, sponsors, and fans.
  • Passion for sports and an understanding of the unique dynamics of sports marketing and fan engagement.
  • Ability to manage high-pressure situations with professionalism, discretion, and strategic thinking.

Compensation

  • Salary commensurate with experience, plus bonus structure (when eligible)
  • Benefits include paid vacation & sick time, 401(k) plan (when eligible) and health, dental and vision insurance
