Overview
An opportunity to help a recently rebranded and renovated luxury life-style hotel gain footing as a Marriott’s newest Autograph Collection hotel. Touted by Conde Nast as “Most Exciting Opening in 2023…” and ranked #1 Best Luxury Hotel in San Francisco by TimeOut, The Jay is a completely renovated and redesigned luxury destination, and has become the newest jewel of San Francisco’s Embarcadero/Jackson Square/FiDi neighborhood. Oversee marketing execution, and develop neighborhood partnerships, plan, execute and promote on-property activation events. Oh, and we have fun, work hard and laugh a lot. Promote on-brand messaging to customers through traditional, digital, and social media channels with the goal of driving revenue and supporting total hotel goals. Help create an authentic vibe in the hotel’s lounge and terrace by partnering with local San Francisco artists and makers on activation events in an effort to create our location as the neighborhood hot spot. This includes digital marketing planning and execution, social campaigns, public relations partnerships and food and beverage property activations and deployment of strategies and tactics. Includes event planning, seeking out and developing partnerships with local makers, artists and innovators and then communicating these activations via social media.
Works closely with the Director of Sales + Marketing, General Manager and third party restaurant Director on all aspects. Required to leverage key internal partners including the sales and food and beverage teams as well as hotel partnerships and internal stakeholders. With full team and ownership support, charged with creating a guest activation program from the very beginning. Build on established direct marketing plans, targeted campaigns, and activated channels to drive consumer awareness and preference, increasing market share, and building broader portfolio and brand awareness.
Showcase artistic, food and beverage promotions to both hotel guests and to local neighborhood patrons. Leans on senior corporate marketing and public relation agency resources; partners with them to develop and execute basic marketing strategies across multiple outlets for the positioning and pull-through of continent strategy that align with hotel goals.
Collaborate with Director of Sales + Marketing on all aspects of other marketing efforts for Leisure Travel, Business Travel and the Group Segment including Local Catering. These include offering support on creative ideas, development of marketing plans/strategies, public relations, execution and post-execution matrix analysis.
Responsibilities
Activation Programing and Management
- Develop and deliver, from the ground up, an activation program that showcases local artisans and makers giving guests and locals an amazing, enriching experience and as a result, creating a neighborhood hot spot.
- Leads and/or partners with hotel operations and third party operators to conceptualize/execute property-level programming and activation, based on brand guidelines.
- Partners with Director of Sales + Marketing, but owns and develops annual artisan and maker activation marketing plan to maximize guest and local draw experience.
Marketing and Digital
- Helps develop the annual marketing plans including creative development, media planning, and property activations.
- Oversees property level marketing planning and execution to ensure business goals and key strategies are appropriately represented in property marketing plans.
- Manages relationship with senior partners including property leadership, regional teams, third party restaurant team, ownership community, as well as senior HEI segment leaders.
- Leads marketing and e-commerce collaborations, sharing/best practices across the portfolio and enterprise.
- Assists sales, catering and events teams to promote hotel amenities to both attract new business and increase revenues
- Creates annual marketing calendars for the hotel.
- Plans, designs and executes digital media, collateral and advertising needs for the property.
- Plans, designs and executes marketing collateral needs for the property.
- Maintains, monitors, updates and optimizes brand, “.com”, vanity and micro sites.
- Assists hotel photography process - schedules shoots, budgets, attends shoots, manages vendor relationships, ensures brand photography standards are met, edits, approves and distributes digital assets across all relevant hotel and digital channels.
- Performs ad hoc digital and creative projects as required.
- Performs any other job related duties as assigned.
- Serves as the hotel(s) brand guardian / liaison, verifying all marketing reflects brand voice. Leads the strategic pull-through of continent and brand promotions and campaigns.
- Partners with Revenue Management to develop and execute promotional strategy.
- Develops and manages property email marketing strategy, digital strategy across M.com, vanity site and third-party sites, paid media campaigns and performance and verifies proper execution.
- Partners with Director of Sales + Marketing to develop annual digital marketing plan to maximize hotel revenue production and identify digital marketing opportunities on third party and local partner sites.
- Monitors and provides recommendations for SEO and update as needed in collaboration with Marriott Digital Services and corporate senior marketing leadership.
Content Management
- Manages Marriott.com content (via EPIC, Efast, MDS Client Community, etc.), OTA content (via respective extranet sites), vanity site and micro site content and Third-Party / Group Site content (via respective content management systems).
- Manages photography distribution including search photos, pre-arrival photos, and photo gallery management.
- Manages guest communications (e.g. confirmation, pre-arrival, etc.).
Partnerships and Public Relations
- Identifies and cultivates partnerships internally and externally, including Marriott Digital Services (MDS), marketing and PR firms and hotel’s philanthropic organizations.
- Maintains frequent, active engagement with DOSM, GM and corporate VP of Marketing to communicate overall recommendations and actionable next steps based on identified findings, best practices, and overall digital trends for their portfolio of hotels.
- Partners with PR agency, if applicable, or internal PR messaging.
- Spearheads execution of PR events and promotions.
Banquet and Local Catering Marketing
- Manages banquet and local catering marketing opportunities on third party and local partner sites for small social events and corporate meetings.
- Outreach to the Big Three office buildings and social groups with guest room blocks promoting catering opportunities
- Defines in-house F&B programming in partnership with Banquet Manager and third party operator and manage execution.
Social Media
- Assists in reviewing social media content calendars and collect local area and property events
- Manages all aspects of social influencer visits, direction and results. Partners with our social media third party partner.
Public Relations
- Strategic Partnerships (link building campaign)

General
- Leads, owns and directs asset development, including hotel collateral, photoshoots (sourcing, planning, on-site execution, post-editing and distribution), etc.
- Measures and communicates success of campaigns and digital performance using relevant reports tools.
- Cultivates partnership with and active participation in demand generation strategy development.
- Reconciles marketing plan monthly with accruals, forecast in conjunction with Director of Sales + Marketing and Director of Finance.

- Runs, reviews, analyzes and clearly articulates to stakeholders’ key reports and adjust strategy accordingly.
- Supports group lead generation efforts with development and delivery of digital, advertising and tradeshow materials.
- Manages internal and external partners to verify deliverables are executed to support hotel strategy.
- Demonstrates the ability to create and maintain strong relationships and negotiation skills with key internal and external partners/stakeholders (e.g. GMs, Sales and Revenue Leaders, Regional Team, media representatives).
- Collects, reviews, and submits invoices for property marketing efforts and manage the overall submission process.
- Completes other reasonable duties as requested by leadership.
Qualifications
- 4-year bachelor's degree in Marketing, Public Relations, Business, or related major
- 1 year experience in the sales, catering management, marketing, digital or related professional area; hospitality marketing or services experience preferred.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint, InDesign, Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator.
- Strong analytical skills, ability to identify relevant data and leverage to positively impact hotel revenues.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to adapt communication style to suit different audiences, such as effectively communicating with supervisors, coworkers, public etc.
