Email Marketing Manager (Temporary Position)
Overview: This position is a temporary role to support the Email Marketing team while the Email Marketing Manager is on maternity leave. The temporary Email Marketing Manager will work closely with the Associate Director of Email Marketing, Email Marketing Specialist, Project Managers, and the web team to manage daily operations of email marketing projects within External Relations at Harvard Business School. This role requires sound judgment, flexibility, and the ability to thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced, idea-driven, and creative environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage real-time updates of the internal email calendar (Excel) and department-wide SharePoint calendar.
- Build emails within Salesforce Marketing Cloud and perform list pulls, data extension management, and list segmentation.
- Execute and manage email campaigns for event and program invitations, e-newsletters, e-appeals, and donor communications, coordinating with External Relations partners (Alumni Marketing, Alumni Relations, Development Communications, Development).
- Pull and analyze email metrics from Salesforce Marketing Cloud and CVENT, highlighting segmented data. Provide weekly updates and compile a comprehensive report after each event/program communication series.
- Manage recurring communications: weekly donor acknowledgments, monthly Investor Society Welcome emails, First-Time Donor Welcome, and recurring gift reminders.
- Create and maintain project setups in Workfront, including assigning stakeholders, updating project statuses, and ensuring deadlines are met.
- Archive sent emails as PDFs, and maintain the digital team's project database.
- Collaborate with the team on ad-hoc email tasks, including list combination, sorting, and variable management.
Basic Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience, including 3 years managing email and web projects.
- Strong project management experience, preferably with cloud-based workflow systems like Workfront.
- Proficiency in email automation tools (Salesforce Marketing Cloud, CVENT preferred) and HTML/CSS for email.
- Intermediate to advanced Excel skills, for segmentation and data analysis.
- Familiarity with email marketing metrics, lead nurturing, marketing automation, and web analytics.
Additional Qualifications and Skills:
- Experience troubleshooting email rendering issues, especially for Outlook on desktop.
- Knowledge of web analytics tools, marketing automation, and trends in digital marketing.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects in a deadline-driven environment.
- Critical thinker with a sense of ownership, autonomy, and pride in work.
- Working knowledge of relevant terminology and technologies, including Adobe Photoshop, CAN-SPAM, GDPR, CASL, V-Lookups, alt-tags, bounce rates, deliverability, and click-through rates.
