We are hiring a
Vice President of Brand Marketing to lead our brand, partnerships, social, influencer, communications, and retail marketing team. This position reports to the Vice President of Marketing and takes Away further by defining Away’s brand mission for the next generation of travelers and bringing that mission to life.
The VP of Brand Marketing is a brand evangelist, whose work is anchored in telling stories that inspire through today’s networks, platforms, personalities and communities. Native to digital and social but fluent in retail and IRL experiences, you are committed to leading teams to deliver outstanding results. An effective, trusted cross-functional partner, you can champion, lead and deliver ambitious concepts from bold imagination to crisp execution, understanding that the best brands today activate across all customer touch points.
We’re looking for someone who maintains a strong pulse on category trends and conversations and can marry those with data, analytics and creative thinking to craft strategies that fuel our ambitious growth and deepen the connection with our community and our product. If that’s you, you understand the importance of science while still valuing the role of gut and instinct—giving you the confidence to make innovative recommendations and take educated risks. You operate with the highest integrity and strive to apply sound deductive reasoning in all situations. You consistently focus on results and never settle for good enough. You are critical to the success of the business long term and will be a player-coach, working closely to grow and cultivate the team.
In addition to the below responsibilities, this person will oversee a team of 3 direct reports and 5 skip-level reports.
What you’ll do as the Vice President of Brand Marketing
- You’ll bring the brand to the forefront of the business—leading and inspiring big, creative thinking that drives differentiation, brand love, cultural conversation and cascades into impactful business results
- You’ll build, develop, and motivate a talented team of markets across brand, social, community, and communications to continue cultivating their creativity, agility, and motivation - leading to a positive team environment where everyone is eager to grow and feels true ownership in the tactical execution of the brand strategy
- You’ll constantly think about the brand strategically through a cultural lens, keeping a pulse on the zeitgeist and bringing Away deeper into the fold through unique moments, building conversation and results across multiple customer and community touchpoints
- You’ll lead our evergreen and seasonal integrated marketing processes, leveraging brand strategy and customer insights to ensure we’re always learning and evolving
- You’ll oversee a centralized, integrated and comprehensive brand calendar—driving alignment and prioritization of marketing initiatives across the org and ensuring activations support enterprise business objectives
- You’ll lead the planning, briefing, and cross-functional execution of best-in-class omni channel campaigns that deliver results across all owned channels - driving community affinity for new and returning customers, growing revenue, and positioning Away as a marketing and creative leader
- You’ll partner closely with our merchandising and corporate development teams to develop our GTM wholesale plan, ensuring customer touchpoints across secondary channels maintains consistency and stay on brand
- You’ll determine specific and quantifiable metrics of success for all initiatives, then actively measure performance to guide responsive iteration and future planning
- You’ll plan and manage the brand marketing budget and its ROI across initiatives to maximize delivery of business objectives—knowing when to spend and when to save
- You’ll anticipate and solve operational and creative challenges, bringing clarity on objectives when there is misalignment, and fostering collaboration between cross-functional stakeholders
Who You Are
- You have progressive and discernible brand leadership experience at consumer focused brands with an omni-channel presence
- You have deep success in translating and activating a brand socially and through the customer’s lens, and know how to drive product awareness and revenue through impactful omni channel campaigns
- You are a strong leader with a process driven mindset who is confident cultivating and managing a growing and diverse team—someone who people want to learn from, work with, and are inspired by
- You are an effective cross-functional leader and are adept at working with your peers across the business
- You are a creative thinker who brings innovative ideas and opportunities to the table, and follows them through to execution
- You are customer-obsessed—you understand our customer and how to speak to them at every point of the marketing funnel
- You obsess over how our brand shows up and have exceptionally high personal and team standards
- You are deeply familiar with brand strategy, creative development, multi-channel execution (paid and owned), social platforms, experiential marketing, partnerships, influencer strategies, retail marketing, community building and PR amplification—have executed these at scale, driving business results and brand equity along the way
- You have experience leading briefings and management of creative agencies and in-house teams
- You have exceptional budget management capabilities—with laser-sharp budget allocation and optimization and the ability to build the business case for spend
- You have exceptional communication and story-telling skills that bring passion, energy and inspiration to the forefront
- You are culturally-aware and naturally curious—you know what other brands are doing
- You’re creative and innovative; you love to build great new things that are fresh and unique while staying on brand
- Agile, and motivated by a fast-paced and ever changing environment

What We Offer
Our total rewards are inclusive of both compensation and benefits. What we offer within a salary range is dependent on a number of factors, including scope and qualifications for the role, skillset, and balancing internal equity relative to other Away employees. Salary and benefit offerings are reviewed during phone screenings to ensure alignment.
- Compensation Range: $230,000.00 - $240,000.00 annually
- This role is eligible to participate in Away’s Annual Company Performance Incentive Bonus Plan, the terms of which are determined at the discretion of the company
- Equity Grant: commensurate with level determined at the discretion of the company

How We Work

This is a hybrid role that comes into our Soho, NYC office twice weekly on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The working hours are 9am-6pm ET.
