Job Description

Under the direction of the Humanities Institute Director (or designee), this position creates, coordinates and oversees marketing and social media communication initiatives for all programs, services and events of the institute, effectively markets and disseminates information, and promotes the institute's activities. In support of the Humanities Institute's goals and initiatives, drives and manages integrated marketing plans, programs, strategies, tactics, communication platforms, and digital content.

Essential Duties

Creates and develops strategic marketing, social media, and promotion plans for all major Humanities Institute programs, services and events.
Writes content for all major Humanities Institute programs, services and events including, but not limited to: electronic communications, website copy, magazine ad copy, newsletters, printed materials, fliers, brochures, video scripts and presentations.
Writes and develops stories, visual and interactive ideas, and set and manage editorial schedules and assignments to ensure timely publication consistent with established objectives.
Produces newsletters for the Humanities Institute including, but not limited to: writing, editing and formatting.
Prepares communications utilizing strategic messaging and delivery methods designed specifically for recipient audience.
Monitors, manages and coordinates photography, videography, graphic design, production, web design, media relations, publicity, and brand development, podcast placements.
Assists in the implementation of promotional campaigns for the Humanities Institute and university programs in conformity with organization goals and objectives.
Works closely and collaboratively with team members, stakeholders and project owners to help define objectives, needs and outcomes.
Assigns tasks, monitors progress and negotiates solutions to ensure marketing goals are met.
Collaborates with Directors, Deans, Department Chairs and Faculty to obtain information needed to promote and market faculty expertise and research endeavors in the humanities.
Strategically markets Humanities Institute events and programs to enhance the reputation and overall support for the Humanities at ASU.
Additionally, assists marketing Dean-level events and programs as needed.
As a role model, works collaboratively with other university organizations and ASU in general to lend additional support and continuously presents positive and supportive communications and/or messages to all stakeholders.
As a role model, cultivates and fosters a culture of customer service within the Humanities Institute.
As a representative of both the Humanities Institute and ASU, acts as a leader and role model by actively participating/attending a variety of university events and strongly promotes the ASU community by supporting university initiatives, especially in the Humanities.
Maintains close working relationships with counterparts at other universities to share ideas and remain current regarding strategies and initiatives used to attract and retain stakeholders and audience.
Works and supports events (through streaming, recording, and uploading to the institute's YouTube) in conjunction with promotion of Humanities Institute programs and initiatives.
Manages and grows the Humanities Institute's social media presence including but not limited to X (formerly Twitter), Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram; write and curate original social media content for advertising, recruitment, retention and brand awareness purposes.
Edits or rewrites existing copy; read and proof materials for accuracy, style, consistency, voice and readability, recommending and making changes where necessary.
In coordination with ASU news and media relations, develops and distributes local, regional, and national media releases, pitches and story ideas and manage internal and external public relations efforts.
Supervises student employees and interns if necessary or appropriate.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Marketing, Communications or related field AND five years’ progressively more complex experience in writing, two of which include supervision OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Knowledge and skill in the use of software related to marketing communications.
Knowledge of the principles of exemplary customer service demonstrated through actively listening, acknowledging, and responding to every inquiry; taking ownership and resolving each concern or problem as appropriate; exhibiting professionalism and expertise in every interaction and engaging in professional development to meet expectations for service excellence.
Skill in organization and attention to detail.
Experience in budget preparation and forecasting.

Skill in planning, analyzing and coordinating activities and establishing priorities.

Experience in applying organizational skills to manage multiple concurrent projects.
Ability to present consistent messaging, communications, and efforts designed to build and foster strong stakeholder support and awareness of the alumni, university and all its associated organizations.
Ability to foster and model strong customer service methods, culture, and practices.
Ability to stimulate changes in individual, institutional, and corporate behaviors to create a more sustainable environment.
Ability to lead by example in communicating, participating and encouraging support of the institution’s sustainability programs.

Working Environment

Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse; frequently required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work.
Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds.
Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.
Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions.
