AD US Creative Director
Architectural Digest is seeking an experienced creative director to join its team full-time. Reporting to the Global Editorial Director and US Editor in Chief, the ideal candidate is a strong visual leader with a passion for interior design and architecture, and a proven track record for ideating, designing, and creating assets including those for print, digital, video, social platforms, and other editorial and brand needs.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the Global Editorial Director to envision and execute a cohesive brand aesthetic and identity across print, digital, video, social, and brand extensions through images, type, and all other design components.
- Ideate, oversee, and execute all visual elements for the current and future print editions (including layouts) from concept to press, working hands-on with production and post-production experts.
- Work closely with video and social teams to develop design elements for new series, franchises, and one-off programming.
- Develop and execute design elements for related special projects, including digital covers and issues, tentpole packages, and event collateral to ensure consistency across the brand with digital or event executions.
- Collaborate with Visuals team members, including assigning tasks, developing talent, and meeting deadlines.
- Proactively manage the art team; helping prioritize work and lead from project starts to completion.
- Nurture talent and foster a transparent, respectful, inclusive, and collaborative team environment.
- Commission freelance illustrators, animators, and retouchers as needed.
- Collaborate with editorial (print and digital), visual, audience development, video, consumer revenue, product, sales, and advertising teams to ensure the highest level of execution across all platforms; incorporate feedback from stakeholders and prioritize based on larger brand priorities and goals.
Requirements:
- 10+ years in a design role with significant creative output.
- Strong management experience; a thoughtful, inclusive approach to running teams and ability to lead and manage teams effectively.
- Strong portfolio demonstrating excellent design skills, both creative and technical, across multiple platforms including print editorial, video, social, digital, and brand work.
- Leader-like collaboration, communication, and organizational skills.
- Extremely well organized, able to manage many projects simultaneously under tight deadlines.
- Must have a passion for interior design and related lifestyle content such as that published by AD.
- Strong diplomacy skills as the intermediary between the creative team, the editorial team, and other stakeholders.
- Exhibit a strong, proactive way of working to ensure the best representation of the brand and inclusion of all team members throughout the process.
The expected base salary range for this position is from $170,000-$210,000. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including but not limited to relevant skills, training, experience, and education.
