We are seeking a dynamic and innovative Marketing Director to elevate our overall marketing strategy and drive our business to new heights.
Overall brand and marketing strategist
We're committed to a long-term relationship with the right candidate looking to make a lasting impact on our brand. This will require someone who can successfully achieve these 30-, 60-, and 90-day milestones coming into the role.
- 30 days - Assimilate and comprehend the Mercantile Portland brand and clearly articulate the current strengths, weaknesses, and needs of the brand.
- 60 days - Develop an overarching brand and marketing strategy to drive in-store sales. Including: advertising, PR, partnerships, email marketing, SMS marketing, e-commerce, social media and key events.
- 90 days - Work with the executive team to develop a comprehensive marketing budget covering advertising, display, salaries/benefits, contract work, packaging and signage, website expenses, events, printing, etc.
Regularly study the luxury fashion market, especially our brands, to inform the marketing vision and strategy
- Use social media, email and traditional media to understand trends in fashion.
- Work with buyers and sales to understand our specific product-mix and trends to help maximize results and customer lifetime value.
Use data to drive the strategy as well as to measure results
- Including: Google Analytics, Klaviyo, Shopify, Runit (point-of-sale system), Management One, and more. Use the same tech stack to track and report results.
Execute and manage the marketing strategy and daily marketing operations
- Including: advertising, in-store events, contract partners, e-commerce site
Develop strategic relationships that support marketing goals and the brand
- Including: local businesses (hotels, other destination shops, etc.), influencers, vendors, contractors, media channels
Manage e-commerce marketing and merchandising
- Including: homepage messaging, merchandising of existing and new product, auto-emails, all images, all customer-interfaces
- Ensure the e-commerce platform is user-friendly, visually appealing and optimized for sales conversion
Manage the marketing strategy across all social media accounts
KPI Metrics
The successful candidate must have a strong understanding of how to monitor these metrics and spot upward/downward trends that inform changes to the marketing strategy. In addition to base salary, a quarterly bonus structure will be created that focuses on these KPIs.
- Email Marketing: # of engaged email customers
- Social Media: # of IG followers across current channels of focus
- E-commerce: Website visits across channels, bounce rates, conversion rates, abandoned cart % and customer lifetime value
- In-store Event Performance: # of events, event results (sales, profit, transactions)
- Sales Volume: Demonstrated increase over LY
- Brand Awareness: # of community / partner collaborations
Qualifications and competencies
- Proven experience in retail marketing, with a preference for high-end women's fashion industry experience.
- Ability to adapt to a fast-paced, evolving retail environment
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and manage a team (both internal and external)
- Exceptional strategic thinking and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities
- Proficiency in Shopify CMS tools and Klaviyo email marketing
- Demonstrated ability to craft basic digital advertising campaigns across Google Adwords and social media and/or manage the process using an outside vendor.
- Proven expertise in Google Analytics and data analysis
