Who We Are
At Framework, we believe the time has come for products that are designed to last. Founded in San Francisco in 2019, our mission is to remake Consumer Electronics to respect people and the planet.
We've started with two award-winning products, the Framework Laptop 13 and 16. Our laptops are thin, light, high-performance notebooks that can be upgraded, customized, and repaired in ways that no other notebook can. Alongside this, we've launched the Framework Marketplace to enable an ecosystem of parts and modules. We've seen a fantastic reception to both of our laptops from customers and reviewers from outlets like Linus Tech Tips, Ars Technica, and multiple Wirecutter reviews (including a recommendation among the best Windows Ultrabooks of 2024), along with making TIME's Best Inventions lists in 2021 and 2023. As a company, we were #35 on Fast Company's Most Innovative Companies of 2022.
We come from successful consumer electronics startups including the founding team of Oculus, and have closed multiple rounds of funding to fuel our roadmap. Even better (and maybe unusually for an early stage startup), we're in a financially healthy position going forward off of our product revenue. We’re looking for a Creative Director to be a core member of Framework’s growing team as we remake Consumer Electronics. This role is responsible for ideating, developing, and executing on our brand strategy and visual identity across our products, packaging, website, email, and blog. With deep customization and modularity, our hardware products open up a uniquely compelling space for design work. As an early member of our marketing team, this role has the potential for enormous impact on our brand, community, and products.
What You'll Do
- Refine and execute on a bold visual identity on our website, packaging, merch, email, and blog
- Provide strategic creative direction for ecommerce and lifestyle shoots to create a technically accurate, engaging, and consistent style throughout our marketing channels
- Combine creative expression with technical precision when highlighting our products
- Level up our brand tone and messaging to appeal to a diverse range of consumer and business audiences
- Convey brand vision to internal and external stakeholders such as contractors, agencies, and freelancers to scale efforts
- Help to grow our marketing team as we continue to scale our efforts in Framework
- This position will report to the Head of Marketing and will partner closely with our content creator, product designer, and industrial design team
What You Need
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in photography, graphic design, fine arts, or a related field
- 3+ years of experience working as an Art Director, Creative Director, or similar position
- Strong portfolio showcasing your expertise in photo, video, or brand-related design work
- Proficiency in design software such as Adobe Creative Suite, video editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro), and other relevant design tools
- A deep understanding of graphic design, illustration, photo, and video
- Solid understanding of design principles, typography, and color theory
- Excellent storytelling and conceptualization skills, with the ability to transform ideas into visual narratives
- Exceptional attention to detail and a passion for delivering high-quality design work
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and communicate design concepts and strategies clearly
- A desire and ability to manage partners, execute on production work, and wear multiple hats in the early stages of a company
What's Nice To Have
- Previous experience in an early-stage startup or in standing up a new product segment
- Experience in motion graphics and 3D animation
- Expertise in technical or creative illustration
- Familiarity with industrial design
- A passion for DIY
- Tech enthusiasm with deep knowledge of computer hardware and/or software
